The Nissan LEAF continues to be one of the most influential electric vehicles ever. It certainly came to market earlier than many other EVs, but from the moment it arrived, Nissan did an excellent job of making it accessible to the average consumer. If there was something that consumers found confusing it was that Nissan offered a LEAF and LEAF Plus configuration in addition to three core trim levels. This is something that Nissan intends to correct with the 2023 Nissan LEAF, which is now available to test-drive, purchase and lease at Ancira Nissan. The Plus concept remains, but rather than having five configurations in all, the consumer just has to choose between two trim levels. The LEAF S is configured to be as affordable as possible, and the LEAF SV Plus adds performance, technologies and amenities.
Nissan LEAF S
The LEAF S is the first of two 2023 Nissan LEAF trim levels. Nissan designs the LEAF as a front-wheel-drive vehicle, and so it has a single electric motor positioned at the front axle. The base model has a 40-kWh battery pack, which the EPA estimates is good for 149 miles of range on a single charge. Standard equipment now includes the CHAdeMO fast-charging port, which is locking and illuminated, and you have access to Level I and Level II charging as well. There are five exterior colors to choose from, and the base model has 16-inch steel wheels with full wheel covers. Keyless entry and ignition are standard. The base cabin features cloth upholstery, automatic climate control, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, dual front USB ports, dual rear USB ports, a four-speaker audio system and an 8-inch infotainment touch screen with voice recognition and Android and Apple smartphone integration. The LEAF S also features a standard suite of driver-assistance technologies, which includes a rearview camera, automatic headlamps, cruise control, collision detection warning, pedestrian detection warning, front automatic braking, rear automatic braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, blind-spot intervention and rear cross-traffic alert.
Nissan SV Plus
The SV Plus is the second of the two trim levels available for the 2023 Nissan LEAF. The electric powertrain setup is similar to the base model, but it has a more powerful motor—214 vs 147 horsepower—and a larger 62-kWh battery pack. The EPA estimates that this allows for 215 miles of range on a single charge, which is a notable improvement over the base configuration. The SV Plus also has a more elaborate exterior design and is available in some additional body color options, including a Scarlet Ember tintcoat and a two-tone scheme that pairs Super Black with White Pearl. The exterior is also upgraded with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, fog lamps and heated outside mirrors. Cabin enhancements include heated front seating, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel and six-speaker audio system. The vehicle also has a heat pump, which heats the cabin more efficiently. Standard equipment also includes an electronic parking brake, and the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite is expanded with Nissan Connect, a surround-view camera system, adaptive cruise control, driver attention monitoring, integrated navigation and ProPilot Assist.
